I visited Lousiana State University in Baton Rouge on March 25th to present our work on eRNAs. I met many outstanding students and faculty and learned about many exciting research programs.
After almost a full year of revisions, our manuscript in collaboration with Michael Zhang here at UTD will be officially published in the coming issue of Genome Research. Our sincere congratulations to all the authors: Yoon Jung Kim, Peng Xie, Lian Cao, Michael Q. Zhang and Tae Hoon Kim. Now off to an exciting world of eRNAs as programmable switches for genome control.
We also want to express our gratitude to all the reviewers for their careful reviews and comments. We are particularly thankful to one of the reviewers who recognized immediately the value of our work.
Blanca Cepeda from Universidad de Monterrey Mexico spent her summer in our lab, as a participant of the UTD-Mexico summer research program. She gave her final presentation today. Blanca brought her positive enthusiastic energy to our lab. Her dedication and hard work was exemplary. Congratulations on the job well done and we will miss you Blanca!

I am offering a new graduate level course on Nucleus in the Fall 2017 (advanced undergraduates are welcome). I am looking forward to discussing recent advances in our understanding of nuclear structure, processes and function. Hope to see you!
Today marks the 10 year anniversary for the lab. Ten years ago, I drove across from sunny San Diego to chilly New Haven in my trusty hatchback packed with two suitcases and boxes of books to start my lab in Sterling Hall of Medicine at 333 Cedar Street at Yale University. On that drive, I reminisced about Jack Kerouac's "On the Road" and Robert Pirsig's "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance." I still think about those two books and the way I have pursued science, my passion. I am very grateful for everyone's contribution to our pursuit of new knowledge: our collaborators, students, fellows and supporters of the lab. I am especially grateful to the funding agencies and foundations that have made our work possible. We have come a long way, but the journey has just begun. More amazing things to be discovered and ideas to be explored. Thank you, everyone!
